Should You Repaint Your Car's Entire Panel?

alainadavis13

When you find that unwanted scratch or chip on your car, it can feel like it's all you see! Now you have a decision to make about how to fix it. Body shops can offer to repaint the whole panel to get a look closest to a new car. Buffing and touching up can fix minor damage without having to repaint panels. So what should you do? Let's consider the pros and cons of each to help make the decision easy!

As long as your scratches are not too deep, they often buff right out. Our services are less expensive and less time consuming than repainting panels. Your vehicle also stays off of CarFax, helping your future resale. If the scratches or chips are deep and need touchup paint, keep in mind it will not be as perfect or flat as repainting the entire panel. When repainting, the surface is sanded down and resprayed. Touchup will have some texture, like a scar, while being the same color. However, it is typically still fixed enough to be worth not chancing the risk or cost of repainting.

Buffing scratches and touching up is a way to permanently fix damage while keeping your factory paint in tact. Why is this important? By keeping your original factory paint on your entire vehicle, the paint ages the same on every panel. Repainting can be difficult to get the color exactly the same (cars even of the same factory paint vary in shade by where they are painted on the assembly line and how they weather with age). Often, the newly painted panel will have a different hue or texture than the rest of the car (orange peel).

Understanding what to expect for either repainting or using a service like ours is important in order to find the fix best for your situation. Many find that the savings in time, money and keeping their factory paint in tact is worth the exchange of not repainting the car. At the time of an estimate, we can explain how your specific damage can be addressed in a way that satisfies your needs!
